The Best of the Spiralizer: June Cooking Tool of the Month

Cooking Tool of the Month – Spiralizer

Now that summer is officially here raw pasta dishes are popping up all over the internet! It's all drool-worthy! Today I wanted to share with you the best of spiralizer recipes I found on the web. Later this week we'll have a guest recipe from Amber Shea Crawley from her book Practically Raw and an exclusive interview with her. Also we'll have a video that shows you how to make raw pasta with other tools you have in your kitchen. Keep an eye out for that!

Making raw pasta doesn't mean you have to make the whole dish raw. Zucchini noodles are a lovely substitue for regular noodles even if the sauce is cooked. It's great in the summer because no cooking is required for the noodles, you consume less gluten which could weigh you down and there's one less pot to clean! Check out how versatile the spiralizer can be!

  1. thanks for linking up my raw pasta salad!

  2. mmm, so many good ideas here!! Thanks for including my recipe in this awesome list :)

  3. Thanks for the great round-up of links!  I think I have meals planned for a few weeks now!  Thanks for including my cucumber and beet noodles!

  4. They ALL sound so good! I love using the spiralizer for zucchini pasta, of course, but also love doing root veggies and adding them to salads that way.  Thanks so much for including my raw Bolognese pasta! :D

  5. Wow- great blogs to follow and the recipes look delicious!

I used my spiralizer last night but I'll admit, I never eat my zucchini raw. I sautee it lightly and then throw on low fat organic pasta sauce and sometimes chick peas. It's simple and so easy to make! However, there is a raw zucchini pasta I get from our local health food store that is to DIE for. I wonder, how do you get the zucchini to soften up when it's raw? Is it a matter of using oil? I think that's why I cook mine- I don't want crunchy noodles.

    • That’s totally cool! No one says you have to eat the noodles raw. I like the idea of heating them up. You could steam them, quickly blanch them or saute them in oil or broth.

    • I usually microwave my zucchini for about 2 min…it softens up to a spaghetti texture.

  6. Oh my! I've never heard of such a tool! I love it!! It would make things so much easier!! Great recipes too! Thanks for sharing.

  7. I LOVE zucchini pasta! I have my favourite zucchini marinara at least once a week, because it take less than ten minutes to make and it is so yummy and healthy. Great to have a standby dish on those days when lacking in kitchen inspiration :-) I don't have a sporaliser, but I use a peeler that is used in Asia to make green mango salad and green papaya sald- same effect as a spiraliser, and the tool only cost me two bucks! I sometimes use a regular veg peeler to make "linguine" pasta with zuchnini and carrot too. I love raw pasta!

    • I love that tool too! I actually show how to use it as well as the spiralizer in a video blog. I use that more often because I don't want to get out the spiralizer ;)

  8. I bought a spiralizer a few months ago and just used it for the first time this weekend.  I tossed the noodles with the pistachio pesto from Spork-Fed.  It was incredibly good.  I'm excited to have this whole compilation of more ideas!  Thank you for putting it together!  I don't know if you're on Pinterest, but you might want to consider putting a photo on this post.  That way it can be pinned easier by folks who want to keep track of this great information!  :)
